ESEE 5PDE-005 Modell 5 Dark Earth Klinge 3D Coyote-Schwarz G10 Überlebensmesser, Kydex-Hülle + Clip-Platte

Das ESEE Modell 5 ist ein feststehendes Messer für Survival, Bushcraft-Aktivitäten und Aufenthalte in der Natur. Die Klinge besteht aus Kohlenstoffstahl 1095 mit einer Härte von 57 HRC. Mit einer Dicke von 6,5 mm ist es ziemlich breit. Die Firma ESEE hat das Modell 5 ursprünglich für Piloten entwickelt, die sich aus einem abgestürzten Flugzeug oder Hubschrauber befreien und überleben mussten. Ein feststehendes Messer wie dieses ist in solchen Situationen unverzichtbar. Naturliebhaber und Überlebenskünstler haben das ESEE 5 Messer sehr geschätzt.

Der 1095-Kohlenstoffstahl zeichnet sich durch seine Zähigkeit aus. Es ist fast unmöglich, ihn zu brechen, besonders bei dieser Dicke. Ein weiterer Vorteil ist, dass sich der Kohlenstoffstahl 1095 leicht schleifen lässt. Der Nachteil ist die Anfälligkeit für Korrosion. Daher hat die Firma ESEE das Messer mit einer starken Traktionsbeschichtung in Coyote-Farbe verbessert. Die Klinge ist wiederum mit einem Griff aus G10-Material verbessert. Der Griff ist in 3D-Form gestaltet, in Coyote- und Schwarztönen. Er liegt sehr gut in der Hand, auch bei nasser Handhabung, und ist ergonomischer. Die traditionellen Griffe der ESEE-Messer sind flach und kantig. Mit diesen Griffen wurde das ESEE 5 viel vielseitiger und näherte sich den traditionellen Bushcraft-Messern an.

Die Hülle ist aus Kydex-Material in Schwarz und verfügt über einen Clip zur Befestigung. Der Griff hat eine Öffnung zur Verwendung einer Schnur.

Very nice, heavy duty survival knife. Quality and fit & finish are top notch. Beware though, this knife is built like a tank and is heavy, it is certainly no nimble bushcraft knife. Knife was razor sharp out of the box with perfect symmetrical grinds. It is blade heavy, so a good chopper. The handle is very ergonomic and fairly grippy, however, it loses 1/2 point because the rear of the handle is fairly slim and doesn't feel really secure (my light finger seems not to be able to get a strong grip) when chopping....my hand tends to slip backwards, so would suggest the use of a lanyard (provided) when chopping. Jimping on the spine of the blade is not too aggressive. Unfortunately, there is nowhere on the knife, that I could find, that would scrap a ferro rod unless you modify yourself (or heaven forbid...use the blade edge), so another 1/2 point deduction. The Sheath is well built and has a small drainage hole. It retains and secures the knife very well. It even has the nice touch of an adjustable retaining screw. The only thing I don't like is the belt clip. I am not a fan of belt clips at best and this one feels thin and flimsy. Deduction of another 1/2 point because I see this as a bit of a sheath design error. On the whole, its a good knife with very good quality build and built like a tank but has a few "niggles". I would recommend to those who would use it for what it really needs to used for...survival and not bushcraft (unless you are a giant with hands the size of shovels). Additionally, normal retail price is high so would recommend only if you can get a bargain price (like I did here at Knifestock).
